in addition to an inspiration to telling off religion,
rigoberta's book also has taught me exactly how the mayan language, Cakchiquel (cawk-che-kell), is spelled.

the only things i remember though are:

Ho't xowbim (attempted spelling)*
hought shauw-bim (attempted pronunciation)
vamanos (spanish translation)
let's go (english translation)

AND

ut ba'xute (attempted spelling)*
oot ba-shoot (attempted pronunciation)
tu culo (spanish translation)
your ass (english translation)

*note: that ' indicates a glottal stop. like your tongue getting in the way of talking for a second, a temporary hault in breathing.
yeah. i guess you'd have to hear it. . .
