today i was the victim of age/class discrimination. i applied for a job on campus.
they were looking for somebody who could be a more long-term asset.
being a junior didnt allow for enough time, i guess =P
in linguistics today, we watched a movie about black english.
i think it was shot in the late 70's - early 80's.
anyway, it showed how it kinda has some african characteristics to it.
but the funny shit was that they were showing some black men from NY talking amongst each other,
and they were subtitling at the bottom what they meant in "standard english".
it was shit like "stepping up" and "my crib" that they had to translate.
it was easier to listen to them and more akward to read the subtitled explanation.
